If you have been smoking for years and years, you’ve probably tried stopping that nasty and self destructive habit more than five times in your life. Statistics show that most long term smokers, up to 78%, have attempted to quit several times, but have gone back to smoking. The studies do not differentiate between cessation methods, but include samples from people using nicotine replacement therapies like the patches, or gum, as well as those who have used prescription medications (usually an antidepressant) and those who have gone cold turkey. The past five years have seen great strides made in e-cigarettes — electronic smoking simulators that generate harmless water vapor rather than smoke — and the leader of the pack is Charlotte based Blu Cigs.

Blu Cigs offers a safe alternative to cigarette smoking. There is no tobacco involved, and nothing is burned. Rather, a liquid substance is heated in a cartomizer which transforms it into odorless mist that when inhaled and exhaled feels like smoking and diminishes the need for tobacco products. Thousands of people have successfully put cigarettes down for good after switching to electronic cigarettes. Check out the promo video for more:

Computer vision syndrome is a vision disorder characterized by eyestrain, headaches, and blurred vision. it is believed to be caused by the nearness of the eyes to the computer monitors many of us work at day after day. Yet some people develop symptoms, while others never do. The human eye is able to adjust to near and distant vision fields without much drama in most cases. It seems that certain co-morbid conditions amplify the effects of CVS in certain individuals. There are also people who never experience any discomfort at all from working in front of a computer monitor for extended periods of time, even for years on end.

Because Computer Vision Syndrome is more of a collection of issues than a single, identifiable malady, it is often misdiagnosed as any of several other eye conditions. This is rarely harmful, since treatment of the group of conditions is often similar to to the treatments prescribed for a single problem; the danger comes only when the syndrome further contributes to existing or undiagnosed early signs of serious vision problems, such as macular degeneration.

Here is an infographic that seeks to clarify some of the mysterious symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome. If you notice several of these symptoms going on with your own vision, let your eye care provider know.

Today I am going to stray a little from my normal health topics to talk about something that can be serious, addiction to social media. You might be sitting there chuckling to yourself, but it’s a true thing. People can become addicted to social media in some form. Think about those people who you see constantly adding status updates, or you know where they are at all times thanks to the fact they “check-in” at all the places they go. You may even be one of those people. If you know someone like this, then you might want to stage an intervention. If you are that person, it might be time for you to try some detox.

Do you need to know some of the signs of an addiction to social media before you can make the call of whether you need to detox or not? Well, you are in luck. The infographic below shows you the symptoms of being a social media addict. Some of my favorite symptoms are LOL-Tisms, Tweet Speak, and Offline Complex. Do you suffer from any of the below signs or symptoms? Get better by limiting your social media interactions and only having it is small doses.

If you are a slacker when it comes to caring for your teeth, then you might just want to change your tune. You see, bad dental care and hygiene is not just hurting your teeth. That’s right, if you are not properly caring for your chompers you are putting yourself at risk for a variety of diseases that have nothing to really do with your mouth. Everyday people do things to stay healthy and keep their risks for stroke and heart disease down, but the reality is that these problems can be triggered by improper care of your teeth. Bummer! So, know the facts and make sure that you are caring for your teeth. to show you what you might be at risk for, there is a great infographic below.

You might be surprised to find out that:

Heart disease could be an affect of gum disease, and so can stroke.

An abscessed tooth could cause pneumonia.

A brain abscess could be caused by an abscessed tooth.

The facts seem startling and scary, but you can take precaution. Make sure that you are visiting your dentist regularly. If you want to make sure you are taking care of your teeth, then your dentist will probably be more than happy to give you advice and directions.

I would never lie and say that I have not experienced a time or two where I have not consumed more alcohol than I probably should have, but for all of you who like to party hard a lot, you may have to endure some serious consequences from that eventually. Drinking, smoking, and staying up so late might even lead to you living a shorter life. I know that this is something that many people do not want to have to think about, but the fact is, it is important to know that partying does have side effects that can be incredibly harmful.

Of course I’m not just randomly on an anti-party kick, but I watched the below youtube video that was posted by National Geographic, and it is kind of scary to think about all that happens to your body during both the partying process and the recouping. Basically I think that everything should take place in moderation. I’m not going to tell everyone that only smoke one cigarette a day is healthy, but it is a lot better than a whole pack a day I’m sure. For the same reason you wouldn’t eat a Big Mac for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you probably should limit your intake of other unhealthy things too. What do you think?

It does not matter where you are from or who you are, but it is more than likely that you are in some way or another thinking about getting into shape and possibly losing a few pounds. In fact, there are very few people who are not looking to become more healthy or drop some weight. Getting motivated and into a routine for working out seems to be quite difficult for many people though, and I can say that it is also difficult for me. There are a few ways that you can find your motivation to get to the gym or workout and the best way I have found is through group exercising. Whether you are a member of a gym that offers classes, or if you have a group of friends that would like to start walking together each day, you will find that fitting in exercise each day is much easier when you have a support system there for you.

Gym Group Classes – The great thing about group classes at your gym is that they are designed for both the beginner and advanced, so as you get more into shape, you can continue to grow and expand your routines. Many gyms offer classes that will incorporate weight training with lighter weights and high repetitions that allow you to build muscle, burn more calories and fat, and get a stronger and leaner build. There are also classes for cardiovascular endurance, and other classes like spinning and Zumba. If you are hesitant to just hop right in a class, see if a friend will join you for a couple of classes. Maybe he or she will get hooked and join the gym too. If you tend to be a social butterfly, then make some new friends in the class that will hold you accountable for showing up. If you know someone is expecting you to be there, you’re more likely to drop the excuses and make it.

Exercising Groups – Surely you are not the only person in your circle of friends who is looking to implement a routine for exercising. With that being the case, you can all get together four times a week to walk or run in a local park. Like group classes at the gym, this will keep you motivated and inspired to continue on with your get fit journey. Having a group of people counting on you to help will also keep you going back for more.

No matter if you have never exercised or if you’re ready to just get back on track, it is time that you find the best routine for you to regain a healthy and fit body. Talk to your friends or visit a local gym to see what options you have for group fitness.

Smoking is something that many people have becoming addicted to over the years. Now more than ever, the risks of partaking in this unhealthy habit are available to everyone who picks up a pack. The Surgeon General even has a statement on all packs of smokes. Not only are the ingredients in a cigarette addicting to a person, but the entire habit of actaully lighting up is an addiction as well. Often times, people will take up smoking shortly after quitting due to the habit of just going out for a smoke break or having a smoke after dinner. The habit of just doing it can prove to be as addicting as the ingredients if not more so.

The fact is that you need to stop. First consider why you have not quit yet. Have you tried in the past, and failed? Are you worried about what you have heard happens to those who do quit? Are you afraid that if you eliminate this part of your life, you will be a different person? Theses are all valid worries, fears, and concerns. The good news is that there are many ways that will help you to overcome. You may know that there are some symptoms when you start to quit. These symptoms can be anything from a bad mood to food cravings, and for some they can last for a few days up to more than a few weeks. While it is scary, you can use some of the following tools and examples to help keep you on track for reaching your goal of quitting.

Replace the Nicotine – Nicotine is not bad for you, but it is the main reason that you have an addiction to cigarettes. The other products used in creating cigarettes are harmful to your body, so when you stop smoking, you can use certain medicines, gums, and other products that actually provide nicotine. If you choose to use something to replace the nicotine from your cigarettes, you will have an even better chance of quitting for good.

Find Help – In anything that we try to take on in life, we need to have a support system. Turn to your family and good friends that want to see you quit smoking for good. They will be a great encouragement to you on this tough journey. There are even counselors that you can reach online or via telephone that have been in your situation and can help you stay on the right track.

Be Sure of Your Game Plan – One of the first things that you should do after deciding to quit smoking is create a plan of action, or a game plan. Write it down and carry it with you, or post it where you will see it everyday. On this plan, include your reasons for quitting, your goals, and leave room for your milestones. This plan will help you to remember why you are on this path, and you will probably take great pride in not smoking when you look at it.

Good luck on your journey to quit smoking! While it may be a serious challenge for you, it is doable.

Discovering you have a wart, anywhere on your body, is very disconcerting and unsettling. First of all, they can be itchy or hurt, but mostly, they look awful. It has been said that if you handle a toad you will get warts. I can’t remember ever handling a toad, and I have experienced warts.

Warts are caused by a virus. There are several types of warts. The common wart most often appears on fingers or any part of your hand, but it can grow anywhere on your body. Planter’s warts appear on your feet and can be caught easily in public showers or pools. The flat wart appears mostly on the face, arms legs and knees. A Filiform wart appears mostly on the face and can form on the eyelid or around the lips. All warts are ugly and unwelcome.

Then there are genital warts that can be caught from partner to partner and they appear on the genitalia. These warts are very contagious and it is suggested that you take great care in preventing the spread of them.

It’s important to always have these unwanted growths checked by a physician to determine what kind of wart you have, if it is a wart, and what options you have to get rid of them. cable internet bundles Unfortunately, most of the options take time, involving weeks of application of topical ointment, usually containing salicylic acid, to make the miserable things go away, and then they might come back. Beware, picking at them or biting them can cause them to spread.

One option is to have your physician spray a liquid on them, freezing them, this procedure is called cryosurgery. It stings a bit when it is applied, but the pain doesn’t last. What’s worse, a little bit of sting, or keeping the ugly wart? The area may weep a bit, scab up and then go away, but it may take a couple of applications to get completely rid of them. And gosh darn it they just might come back again.

If you are going to use the over-the-counter medicines or medicine soaked pads, similar to band-Aids, first soak the wart in warm water, or Epsom salts, use a pumice stone to rub off as much of the top of the wart as possible, being careful not to rub it until it bleeds. Once you have pumiced it down, put the ointment on the wart, being careful not to get it on too much of the surrounding skin, and cover it with a band-aid. Leave it on for a day and repeat the same procedure again for the amount of days the instructions suggest. This is usually several days. Good luck, it might not work. There is the theory of putting duct tape on a wart, but it’s not being suggested here.

In the case of planter’s warts there are two home remedies floating around that just might do the trick. Soak your foot in a solution of warm water and a couple of tablespoons of chlorine bleach. I’d certainly rinse my foot afterwards. The other is to walk barefoot on the beach and the sand just might pumice the planter’s wart down and it will go away. Possibly the salt in the sand does have some healing powers. In any case, I wouldn’t try to cut it off, or dig it off, you will probably spread the virus and have warts all over the place.

Walking been the greatest exercise since the creation of Adam and Eve.In pre-biblical times a majority of people walked because there was no other means of travelling the countryside.Only the rich could afford a chariot drawn by horses.Walking has been part of the human condition for thousands and thousands of years, right to the invention of the Bicycle in 1885,which became popular in the 1900′s.Walking is still a great way to exercise, especially on warm sunny days in Spring, where you can walk along the Erie Canal.Maybe a nice strode along the boardwalk as you listen to the sound of Ocean’s waves crashing against the rocks that stand firm like giants along the shoreline.Take a moment,if you can and close your eyes, listen to the sounds of the Ocean, what kind of image or images do you see in your mind’s eye.Walking is also a great way to release the stress that has built up during your busy work week.Walking is a wonderful way to know nature in its unspoiled state, when everything is new during Spring, there’s a rebirth happening in nature. You should listen with attentive ears to the sounds of the woods,or walking in a city park you can hear the life of the big city as it keeps active 24/7.Maybe a walk on the boardwalk, where you can hear the call of the seagulls as they talk amongst themselves,as they look for food that was left behind from the weekend visitors that flock to the shoreline like Geese.Walking is great for your heart and mind,it keeps your blood flowing through your veins.Walking doesn’t waste gas,in fact it could save you gas in the long run.(Example)Maybe you need to go the store,to buy milk, bread and eggs and you know that the store is only five blocks from where you live, instead of taking the car,why not walk the five blocks,to save some gas, plus walking the five blocks will do you good, your heart will thank you, your body will thank you and what do you have to lose but those few extra pounds, that is also a plus.Walking is a great to meet other walkers, maybe you could say hello, good morning and greet them with a smile as you pass them by on your walk which stretches two and half miles each way, that’s a nice walk.Walking is very easy to start with because you had your training early in life, when you stood up for the first time and you started to take your first steps.Mom and Dad were there to see you accomplish those first steps, since that time you have been walking without missing a step.So take those first steps again,to discover a whole new world of walking,as you are walking, you will see things that you have never seen before in nature, that have always been there, but you hadn’t notice until now.Walking you don’t have to do it alone, you can call up your friends and ask them if they would like to join you in a walk along the canal, the boardwalk, the city park,or maybe just around the neighborhood.Walking is a healthy exercise. music piracy protection
